Stocka Slipway 1983

The dream to restore Deodars hull depended not only on knowledge, and timber for a good price, but even also a wharf where possibilities could be offered to enable us to manage the work ourselves in order to keep the costs low.

Stocka Slipway became a reality when Iggesunds Bruk offered it to the members of The Swedish Sailing Ships Ass. The initiator was member, Ulf Hornfeldt, with his smack, BENITA. Stocka Slip was then founded in 1980.

The new slipway was Deodars saviour. We changed 6 of the worst planks in the hull during the summer of 1981. We invested in a heavy duty bandsaw suitable for boat-building and managed to get hold of a wood fired steam box for steaming the planks. So this was our 6 week holiday at this pleasant little village north of Hudiksvall where many friends came along to help out.

Since the project was such a success it stimulated a follow-up. So after having amassed plenty of resources we booked a huge 7 month working period for the summer of 1983.

Deodars stern was now totally renovated with new frames, aft timbers and planking. Even the fore stave with bow timbers were renewed. An iron keel was mounted under the entire length of the keel, and the work continued on from May until November.
